Here’s an easy way to make a display of pretty candles for your window to celebrate Candlemas.
You will need:
- Cardboard tubes
- Plain card (white or yellow)
- Coloured paper
- Pencil, scissors and glue or tape
- Eco glitter/gold pens/sequins to decorate!
Here’s how to do it:
Cover your cardboard tube in coloured paper, to make the coloured candle. To do this, lay the tube along the edge of your paper and mark how long it is. Cut a rectangle of paper, starting from this mark, and long enough to wrap all the way around your tube (with a little extra at the end). Then glue the paper around the tube. When this is dry, you can decorate it however you like!
Take your plain card, and lay your tube/candle on top; mark how wide the tube is, and then draw and cut out a flame shape that is at least as wide as the tube.
From the centre bottom of the flame draw a vertical line going about halfway up to create your ‘wick’. Use eco glitter, sparkly pens or whatever you like to decorate the flame.
Make small cuts into the top of your candle, on opposite sides, and slot the flame into the top.
Repeat to make more candles if you like; with different sized tubes you could make a whole array of different heights. Then display them in your window!
